Cytotechnology is the study of cells. As a cytotechnologist, you will be responsible for viewing cells and determining whether they are normal or abnormal. You will work with a microscope in a lab to study cells, diagnose cancer, precancerous lesions, benign tumors, infectious agents and inflammatory processes. You can help save lives by discovering diseases early, when treatment is most effective. You might also choose a career in cytotechnology research. Rather than working in a hospital or private medical center diagnosing diseased cells, you might be employed in a government facility or research hospital advancing tumor identification techniques and discovering new, innovative technologies for curing cancer.

At Concordia University, Nebraska, you will be given the basic knowledge you need to continue your education and gain the biological, chemical and medical skills to pursue a graduate degree and eventual career as a cytotechnologist. Concordia University, Nebraska’s pre-cytotechnology program partners with many local hospitals, clinics and organizations that offer hands-on internships and volunteer experiences, so you can observe professional cytotechnologists in action. Concordia’s on-campus state-of-the-art science facilities will allow you the workspace you need to become proficient in the laboratory procedures and scientific principles you’ll need to be successful in your career.

If you want to combine a career in science with a career in healthcare, saving lives and advancing the field of cancer research, then cytotechnology might be the right path for you.
