Adjunct professor of music Alyssa Pracht shares her love of oboe with students
Alyssa Pracht serves Concordia University, Nebraska as adjunct professor of music, teaching private lessons to oboe students. Pracht earned her bachelor of music in oboe performance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2019 and her master of music in oboe performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music in 2021.
“I love getting to know students well through the one-on-one setting,” she said. “Growing these relationships is so important in music-making, and I am so glad to get a front-row seat to students’ progress and learning. It’s such a joy to equip students with practical and expressive skills that increase ability and confidence in their musicianship.”
Pracht frequently performs with Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. She is also the oboist of the reed trio Trio Ventorum.

She began working at the university in fall 2024.
“The Christian environment makes Concordia Nebraska a very special place…don’t take this for granted!” she said. “Especially in the broader realm of music schools and performance groups, it can be challenging to find people who share your beliefs. Everyone’s support around campus is a great reflection of Christ’s love that is uncommon to find in an institution and really makes Concordia stand out as a wonderful place to study and to work.”
When she’s not making music, Pracht enjoys cooking, baking and crochet.
“I’m well on my way to old lady status!” she laughed. “I’m very invested in learning about health and wellness, and prioritize clean ingredients in my food and products, and honoring the temple of my body as best I can. I am rather involved in my church - Calvary Community Church in Lincoln-serving regularly as a pianist on the worship team and participating in many studies over the years.”
She said her work at the university is definitely developing her faith in Jesus Christ.
“My time at Concordia so far is helping me to learn how to speak more surely about things regarding faith, specifically regarding musical concepts,” she said. “It is challenging me to continue to refine my perspective of how my career as musician and teacher can bring glory to God.”
