Concordia Nebraska Director of Christian Education (DCE) Program Associate Director, DCE Internship Placement Coordinator and Assistant Professor Amy Hubach ‘01 has served at the university for five years and as a commissioned minister in The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) for 25 years. Hubach also serves as the adviser for the university Ministry Ties and Concordia Youth Ministry groups and is the church work mission education trip facilitator. Prior to her service at Concordia Nebraska, she served as a DCE at Grace Lutheran Church in Pocatello, Idaho, from 2001 to 2007 and at Grace Lutheran Church in Caldwell, Idaho, from 2007 to 2020.

“I love working at Concordia University because this is a place where learning is about more than achievement, it’s about formation,” she said. “I get to walk alongside students as they discover who they are called to be, not just what they are capable of doing.”

Hubach has a bachelor of arts degree in theology with DCE certification and youth ministry emphasis from Concordia University, Nebraska, a master of science degree in clinical counseling with emphasis in trauma, grief and crisis from Northwest Nazarene University, and she is currently working toward a doctoral degree in leadership studies from Gonzaga University.

“A glimpse, a small taste of heaven from a rough table, is enough for the God of the universe to work miracles. That is part of my work here. That is what I am preparing students for.”

She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the National Association of Directors of Christian Education (NADCE) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). In 2016, she received the Lux Cristi Award from Concordia University, Portland College of Education in recognition for outstanding Christian leadership in Lutheran education.

A frequent speaker at special events, she has addressed audiences of all sizes on a variety of topics at gatherings such as the LCMS Youth Gathering, the Best Practices in Ministry conference, the NADCE conference and numerous regional ministry events. A prolific writer, she has authored Bible studies and newsletter articles for churches and regional ministry-focused newsletters and frequently serves as a Bible study leader.

“I don’t think anyone’s life is boxed up, wrapped beautifully and tied with a bow. I think we may try to make it look that way, but the reality is, life is messy,” she said. “Every person I have ever encountered, whether it was in the church or here at Concordia, comes from mess. That’s where Jesus met people, that’s where Jesus continues to meet people, and it my goal to follow in His footsteps…into the mud and muck and meet people where they are at and show them, I pray to God that I can show them, that they are loved beyond what they will ever understand. That is grace. It isn’t easy, it is usually inconvenient, and I am only going to be able to give them a glimpse, but that is enough. A glimpse, a small taste of heaven from a rough table, is enough for the God of the universe to work miracles. That is part of my work here. That is what I am preparing students for.”
