Concordia Celebrates 125 Years of Ministry

This year we are blessed to celebrate 125 years of academic service and ministry to the church and world. Founded in 1894 by The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Concordia University, Nebraska continues to be an excellent academic and Christ-centered community equipping men and women for lives of learning, service and leadership in the church and world. The Concordia 125 Committee is being led by Dr. Jenny Mueller-Roebke and members of the Concordia faculty and staff. The theme for this celebration comes from Colossians 2:6-7 (ESV) “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

These words are very appropriate for our roots and heritage still live on even as we grow as a university. The Concordia 125 Committee has planned a number of family friendly events to bring students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, parents and community together to celebrate this wonderful milestone. We will kick off the 125th celebration with a month filled of events: August 19 we hold the Opening Service for the Academic Year at St. John Lutheran Church. Then a new event—“Dinner and Movie” on the front lawn of Weller to say thank you the St. John and Seward communities for all of their support. Finally, we’ll wrap up August with the 2nd annual Faith and Family Night at the Lincoln Saltdogs Baseball game.

Many great opportunities will continue throughout the year for a time of giving thanks and celebration. We hope you can join us!
