Reformation Vespers at Concordia University, Nebraska

Reformation is a beloved church holiday within The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. Concordia University, Nebraska hosted several events for students to participate in throughout the week leading up to Reformation. One of these events was Reformation Vespers on October 31. The service was held in Weller Chapel at 9 p.m.

The service was put together by the students that organize the bi-weekly Evening Prayer services. Hunter Remington led the organization, Cole Yunker was the cantor, Deagan Jones was the organist and Pastor Brent Horne of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska, served as the guest preacher for the service. Jones put together a brass choir for the service made up of two trumpets, Mitchell Stephens and Becky Horne, and two trombones, David Eatherton and Miriam Ganoung. Over 100 students and community members attended the service.

“It was a very nice chance to see what the confessing student body here is. That 100 plus people thought it was important enough to go to church on what the world sees as a really fun night is really important to the faith.”

Remington commented, “It was a very nice chance to see what the confessing student body here is. That 100 plus people thought it was important enough to go to church on what the world sees as a really fun night is really important to the faith.”

Evening Prayer offers services at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and occasionally offers special services for festivals like the Reformation.
