Concordia University, Nebraska’s Micah Pre-Health Scholars program is entering its third academic year. The program is designed to help students interested in healthcare careers by giving them hands-on experiences, a community of students and professors with similar interests and graduate school preparation.

Eight students were admitted to the program this year:

Declan Brennan, Marshall, Missouri

Simeon Durham, Norborne, Missouri

Emma Christensen, Seward, Nebraska

Ellie Weyeneth, Davenport, Iowa

Lily Cody, Alamosa, Colorado

Vanessa Koelling, Kingsley, Iowa

Ben Werner, Palmer, Kansas

Jayse Anderson, St. Augustine, Florida

“It is a blessing to walk alongside these future healthcare leaders and a gift to help them discover their path to future vocations, including what it means to be the hands and feet of God as we approach our careers at the very intersection of faith and medicine.”

This year, the Micah Scholars program is newly under the direction of Cara Rathke. Rathke also serves Concordia as an assistant professor of science. She is hoping to implement new responsibilities for the scholars, including diving into healthcare certification and committing to a long-term volunteer organization. In addition, the program is starting Scholars’ Table dinners. These events will allow Micah Scholars to have a meal in community with health care leaders around the Seward Community. On September 30, the Micah Scholars will serve at Project Connect in Lincoln, Nebraska as a larger service project.

“It is a blessing to walk alongside these future healthcare leaders and a gift to help them discover their path to future vocations, including what it means to be the hands and feet of God as we approach our careers at the very intersection of faith and medicine,” said Rathke.
