Concordia Nebraska announces new Solomon Scholars computing scholars program

Concordia University, Nebraska recently announced the formation of the university’s Solomon Scholars program, a Christ-centered community for students pursuing careers in computing, technology and problem-solving fields. Rooted in biblical wisdom and intentional mentorship, the program prepares students to use their technical gifts in service to others. In Scripture, Solomon is remembered for wisdom grounded in the fear of the Lord. Concordia’s Solomon Scholars seek to grow both in knowledge and wisdom as they prepare for various vocations in computing.  

Solomon Scholars is intended primarily for students pursuing computing-related fields such as computer science, data science, mathematics or related disciplines. The program is built around mentorship, community and service. These experiences are designed to complement students’ coursework and help prepare them for faithful service in computing vocations.  

“I’m excited about the Solomon Scholars program because I think it addresses something that is missing in computing education right now,” said Concordia Nebraska Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Solomon Scholars Program Director Dr. Marcus Gubanyi. “AI and similar technologies are changing the computing landscape, and students now need to develop both technical skills to solve problems and wisdom to use emerging technologies in faithful service to their neighbors. My hope is that through mentorship and community, Solomon Scholars will grow as discerning Christians and succeed in navigating a complex technological world.”

Concordia Nebraska’s scholar programs offer cultivated, focused academic communities on campus to help students find meaning and connection with peers, develop character and convictions and inspire deeper learning.  

The Solomon Scholars program is intentionally small to cultivate strong mentoring relationships and a close-knit learning community. Solomon Scholars welcomes all applicants who are interested in serving in computing vocations after graduation. This includes careers in software engineering, data science, actuarial science, information technology, education and more. Both incoming freshman and transfer students are encouraged to apply.  

Anyone who has been successfully admitted to Concordia University, Nebraska will be considered for Solomon Scholars by indicating their interest on the application. Students who are interested and have already submitted an application may email the program director at marcus.gubanyi@cune.edu.
