Concordia Nebraska education department hosts 2024 Nebraska Administrators’ Luncheon

On August 5, 20 Concordia faculty and staff members were joined by nearly 50 area PK-12 administrators at the annual Nebraska Administrators’ Luncheon, which is a time to celebrate the relationship between Concordia and area schools. These area schools play a significant role in allowing Concordia’s undergraduate education students to complete their required 100 hours of field experience, as well as several weeks of local student teaching.

The education department has hosted this event for several decades as a way to thank area school administrators for their continued partnership with Concordia’s education program and coordination of opportunities for undergraduate students. “These school administrators,” said Dr. Amanda Geidel, chair of Concordia’s department of education, “help us as we prepare the next generation of teachers.”

Concordia’s education students must complete field experience hours locally, followed by a “professional semester” of student teaching during their final year on campus. A semester encompasses sixteen weeks of instruction for Concordia students; for student teachers, eight of these weeks are spent locally and the following eight are spent in another town, state, or even country. The schools represented at the Nebraska Administrators’ Luncheon are the ones that welcome Concordia students during their eight weeks of local student teaching.

The luncheon opened with a prayer, which was followed by lunch and a series of updates both from Concordia’s attendees as well as the guest administrators. Several members of Concordia’s faculty shared information about the current state of graduate programs, education field experience, and student teaching, while the leaders of the represented PK-12 schools were able to share who was present and update on their schools’ summer projects.

The day’s main speakers were from Concordia, and all, according to Geidel, “expressed [Concordia’s] deep gratitude for the partnership we have with PK-12 schools in the area.”
