Concordia University, Nebraska will host adjunct professor of music Alyssa (Pracht) Case’s woodwind ensemble, Trio Ventorum, for a guest recital in the Borland Recital Hall at 7 p.m. on March 28.

Case is an oboist based in Lincoln, Nebraska. She frequently performs with the Lincoln, Sioux City and South Dakota Symphony Orchestras.

Trio Ventorum is consists of three musicians. Case is the oboist, Brock Nutter is the bassoonist and Ashley Cypher is the clarinetist. The group met through their time studying at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Nutter and Case played together in chamber groups throughout college. Cypher and Case attended in adjacent years, so they did not meet until Nutter brought the three of them together to play in what is now Trio Ventorum. The three have been playing together for four years.

“We play a wide variety of styles, from classic reed trio pieces by composers such as Ibert and Milhaud to new compositions. Our true passion, however, is to highlight repertoire that is rarely performed or lacks accessible recordings.”

The trio plays a wide variety of styles. Their goal is to highlight under-performed repertoires.

“We play a wide variety of styles, from classic reed trio pieces by composers such as Ibert and Milhaud to new compositions. Our true passion, however, is to highlight repertoire that is rarely performed or lacks accessible recordings,” Case said.

This goal involves a lot of research and performances from the group members. They plan to produce professional recordings of many of the works in order to spread awareness of the works on a larger scale.

The group also aims to involve audiences and their community. Once a year, the group expands for their “Trio Ventorum & Friends” concert series. This series is intended to allow the musicians to perform other chamber music repertoire for larger and more varied ensembles.

Trio Ventorum offers admission-free concerts, prioritizes accessible venues and offers live-streamed performances to reach wider audiences.
