As of Sept. 1, two new members, Monique Nunes, Baltimore, Md., and Tim Schwan, Appleton, Wis., assumed positions on the Board of Regents for Concordia.

Concordia President Brian Friedrich believes they will have an immediate impact in their new roles as regents.  “Both bring great passion for serving Concordia’s students and a wealth of unique gifts and talents to the Board,” said Friedrich. “We are thrilled to welcome Tim and Monique to the Board of Regents. Tim’s expertise in the corporate sector and Monique’s expertise in educational and not-for-profit sectors are perfect matches with the needs of the Board.”

A graduate of Concordia University Ann Arbor, Mi., and of Webster University, St. Louis, Mo., Nunes is an administrator at Baltimore Lutheran School.  She previously served as the principal and early childhood director at St. John Lutheran School in Forest Park, Ill. In addition to her work in the education field, Nunes is a writer. She and her husband, Rev. Dr. John Nunes, co-authored Little Things Make Big Differences, and she also has been published in Lutheran Women’s Quarterly. As a volunteer for Lutheran World Relief, Nunes has traveled all over the United States and internationally.

Schwan holds a Bachelor of Science of Education degree and a Director of Christian Education colloquy from Concordia and a master’s degree in education and family counseling from Kearney State College. Currently Schwan is vice-president of church and community engagement for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Previously he taught fifth grade at Trinity Lutheran School in Grand Island, Neb., and was minister of education and youth ministries at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Neb. In addition to his work at Thrivent and in Lutheran schools, Schwan has served as chair of the Habitat for Humanity Wisconsin Board, president of Legends Baseball, Inc., and on the boards of the Appleton YMCA Corporate Fox Cities, the United Way Fox Cities and Faith Lutheran Church.

In addition to the two new regents elected, Barry Holst, Kansas City, Mo., John Kuddes, Leawood, Kan., and Max Wake, Seward, Neb., were reelected as regents.
