Leadership Team Wins in Collegiate Leadership Competition Invitational
On Saturday, April 1, twelve Concordia Nebraska business students traveled to and competed in the Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) US Invitational Scrimmage at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
The competition included four different challenges where the teams set a leader for that specific challenge, assigned team members a role, and completed the task to the best of their abilities. Dr. Curt Beck, professor of business administration, teaches the Leadership Skills Development class and also coaches the students and creates teams in preparation for competitions.
Beck has been teaching the class since 2017 and strongly believes in the benefits of the class for students.
On competition day, there were four challenges in which teams were required to use innovative problem-solving techniques, follower and leader qualities, and good communication. With each new challenge, the team came to a consensus and chose a different member of the team to lead.
“The competition definitely had its challenges, but we used the leadership skills we’ve been developing to remain composed to ultimately receive first and second place as teams,” said senior Carlin Adams. “Throughout this class we’ve all grown so much as individuals, teams, leaders and followers.”
The scrimmage at Christopher Newport University was conducted in person and included hands-on activities and challenges. Meanwhile, the official CLC competition takes place online via Zoom. Students handle challenges online and also in person in preparation for the scrimmage in Virginia.
Out of five teams in the competition, Concordia Team Cobalt placed first overall. Team members are Ashley Gerczynski, Grace Reimer, Austin Jablonski, Joel Baker, Camryn Opfer and Aubrey Baumann. Concordia Team Platinum placed second overall and received first place for overall process points in each challenge. Team members are Chloe Wells, Sydni Watson, Carlin Adams, Olivia Dunklau, Marc Freiberg II and Shelby Ziegler.
