Concordia’s Mission Minded Students (MMS) club is for students who love to serve – who are driven by the desire to spread God’s Word to others and to fulfill both their physical and spiritual needs. The group promotes local and global mission opportunities and holds various events throughout the semester, such as guest speakers, conferences and hands-on activities. Many members take part in mission and service trips to places like Uruguay, Guatemala, Alaska and the Dominican Republic.

Junior special education major Brynn Holtmeier is one of MMS’s student leaders. She says that Mission Minded Students is open to any student who have a desire to serve and spread God’s Word.

“The club is for any and all students who have a mission mindset or want to better understand what it means to be mission minded,” she said. “Members of the club are often the first ones to know about study abroad, mission trips and service opportunities.”

The purpose of Mission Minded Students is to bring together students who have a desire to serve their neighbors for God’s glory. It provides students with access to different opportunities to serve within the local community and the broader community globally.

“The purpose of Mission Minded Students is to bring together students who have a desire to serve their neighbors for God’s glory. It provides students with access to different opportunities to serve within the local community and the broader community globally!” she added.

Holtmeier also said that members frequently hear from current or former missionaries and students who have served on mission teams regarding their experiences. As a result, MMS meetings often feature guest speakers.

“[Events] vary from meeting to meeting,” she said. “They usually start with a devotional and a community-building activity. The meetings often then include guest speakers or student speakers about experiences and opportunities. In the spring, the club shifted to include more community service opportunities as a whole club. This is a great opportunity for students to connect with the community.”

The club is also connected to and closely involved with the annual Beautiful Feet mission conference, which takes place at one of the Concordia University System (CUS) schools on a rotating basis. The 2025 conference will take place at Concordia University, Wisconsin in Mequon. It will bring together students from all CUS schools, including Concordia Nebraska.

Holtmeier said that students should consider joining MMS because of God’s calling for their lives.

“Students should join the club because we are all called to serve our neighbors, as it says in Mark 12:31, and join God in the Great Commission, as in Matthew 28. The club equips students to respond to these calls, no matter how that might look in their vocation.”

She encouraged interested students to reach out to her or MMS’s other student leaders, sophomores Aly Gobin and Ardin Mignea.

“The hope is that students take away what it means to be on mission with and for God,” she said. “The club aims to equip students to join God in serving their neighbors through stories from the field and firsthand experiences. It also provides students with relationships and connections that can become a support system for them.”
