Senior Joseph Kahrs of Franklin, Nebraska, is majoring in agricultural science and plays football for the Concordia Nebraska Bulldogs. He said he chose to attend the university because it offered him the opportunity to focus on the two things he loves – football and agricultural science – while studying at a university that offers a Lutheran, Christian focus.

“I came on a visit to meet with the football coaches and fell in love with the campus and the people that are here,” he explained. “The size of the campus and classes is a lot like the small classes I had in high school. These small class sizes allow for more one-on-one time with my professors and peers.”

[My professors] guide me through my course work to better understand the aspects of ag science so I can choose which career would best suit me in the ag industry.

Students in the agricultural science major at Concordia Nebraska have the opportunity to take specialized courses related to various aspects of the agricultural science profession. These classes are designed to equip students for leadership and service in various agricultural science careers and are taught by esteemed faculty who have extensive experience in their fields.

Kahrs said that he has made many strong friendships during his time on campus, and he is thankful for supportive encouraging professors

“[My professors] guide me through my course work to better understand the aspects of ag science so I can choose which career would best suit me in the ag industry,” he said. “My dream career is to work as either a sales agronomist or an independent crop consultant until I can go back to our family farm.”

The agriculture programs at Concordia Nebraska focus on four foundational disciplines within the agriculture field: agribusiness, animal science, food science and plant science, so students are best-prepared to serve in ag after graduation, whether in agricultural education, agricultural science or agribusiness, so they can help create sustainable, long-lasting and ethically sound agriculture practices for the future.
