Staff Profile: Daisha Sorensen, Director of Student Success
Daisha Sorensen '14 serves as Concordia University, Nebraska’s director of student success. In this role, she oversees the university’s first year coordinators, retention and career services.
Students entering Concordia Nebraska are assigned to a first year coordinator based on their new or transfer student status and program of interest.
Through academic advising, students work together with an advisor to craft unique, individual academic plans based upon each student's strengths, areas to improve and goals. Concordia Nebraska views the advising relationship as an on-going conversation that goes beyond course selection and supports students as they explore courses, college life and what it means to be a servant leader in the church and world.
Concordia Nebraska is a unique community. The relationships you build here are one of a kind.
Sorensen has a bachelor of science in elementary education with a concentration in special education from the university. She has served at Concordia Nebraska for seven years and has served as a called church worker for 10 years. She said her favorite part about her job is working closely with students because they become like family to her.
“Concordia Nebraska is a unique community,” she said. “The relationships you build here are one of a kind.”
She said she appreciates how faith is woven into her daily work life at the university.
“Weekly team devotions and chapel are done with the larger team I work under, but chapel is offered every weekday,” she said.
Sorensen has two children: Sophia (4) and Von III (2). She is also a dog mom to her seven-year-old black lab, Berkeley. When she’s not serving at the university, she enjoys coaching Special Olympics, working out in the gym or running.
“I am blessed to work the student body from the time they join Concordia Nebraska in their first year until they leave,” she said. “I have so many students that come sit in my office to just talk about various things. I am blessed that they are comfortable with me to share things. This truly is a family atmosphere.
At Concordia Nebraska, our goal is to ensure that students have everything they need to succeed during their campus as well as in their career, life and vocations. The university offers a variety of academic resources and staff to support students at Concordia Nebraska.
