Studying Agriculture at Concordia Nebraska

Published by Hope Nelson 1 month ago on Tue, Oct 1, 2024 8:00 AM

In 2022, the state of Nebraska exported nearly 10 billion dollars’ worth of agricultural products – to generate this revenue, the work of many dedicated farmers, ranchers, agricultural business experts and more is necessary. In fact, 1 in 4 jobs in Nebraska are agriculture-related. At Concordia Nebraska, students interested in joining this vital industry can choose from several programs that will prepare them to work as a farmer or rancher, take part in agricultural business or teach others about the field of agriculture.

Agricultural Science (B.S.)

The agricultural science program is Concordia’s primary agriculture offering. Agricultural science is the study of food production from start to finish and educates students in a broad and necessary range of topics in this discipline. With a major in agricultural science, you can graduate prepared for the workforce or graduate school; you can end up working as a farmer or rancher, agricultural financier, government worker, extension office employee and more.

In this program, you’ll study under many of Concordia’s esteemed natural science faculty members as you complete courses in agriculture issues, plant biology, food safety and more. Opportunities for internships and hands-on experiences, in addition, will prepare you to experience real-world agricultural practices before graduation.

Business Administration, Agribusiness Concentration (B.S.)

At Concordia, agribusiness is not its own major; rather, it is an available concentration in the business administration major. Students in this program will take courses in farm and ranch management and agricultural marketing, as well as several courses arranged by agreement with the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in agribusiness. Between Concordia’s offerings and those offered by consortium agreement, students will learn how to apply business and agricultural principles in real life so that they can prepare to play an essential role in the food production process.

For students who have an interest in managing a farm or ranch based on ethical and effective business practices, the agribusiness concentration is an ideal program choice.

Secondary Education Field Endorsement: Agriculture (B.S.Ed.)

For students who wish to educate the next generation of agricultural workers, pursuing the B.S.Ed. secondary field endorsement in agricultural education is an easy choice. The program combines teacher preparation, general education and a broad background in the entire ag industry to prepare students who can effectively communicate the importance of agricultural concepts to their future students at any level. Many such educators will end up teaching in secondary schools, although with a graduate degree, opportunities open in higher education as well.

Like other agriculture students, ag education majors will have hands-on experiences in the field through their general agriculture courses, as well as classroom experiences that prepare them to become skilled educators.

Uzziah Scholars Program

Concordia’s unique offering for students who choose to minor or major in an agriculture-related program is the Uzziah Scholars program. Uzziah Scholars are students who are passionate about becoming good stewards of God’s creation through their eventual work with agricultural resources. They receive a $5,000 annual scholarship for their membership in the program, regularly have opportunities to connect with mentors, and can attend conferences, go on study tours, or participate in agricultural internships. For Concordia’s agriculture majors or minors who want to make an even bigger impact on one of Nebraska’s biggest industries, this program is the right choice.

Concordia prepares its agriculture students to promote the well-being of God’s creation through extensive training in food production, crop management, agribusiness and more. Interested in a holistic, Christ-centered education in agriculture? Learn how to apply here.
