Timothy Aulner serves Concordia Nebraska as adjunct instructor of horn, enjoys private lessons, classroom time with students
Timothy Aulner serves at Concordia University, Nebraska as adjunct instructor of horn. This is his first year at the university. He teaches private lessons for the university’s horn players and also teaches the brass techniques course taken by all Concordia Nebraska music education majors.
“I love having the opportunity to meet with students one on one in their lessons,” he said. “I get to hear about how things are going in their lives personally and how that interacts with their musical journey and goals for their future.”
He said Concordia Nebraska combines faith and education in an invaluable way.
The challenges I face when teaching, developing course material and mentoring students continually remind me that I need to be rooted in Christ in order to best serve the students He's brought into my sphere.
“We can bring our shared beliefs into our teaching to collaborate with students on how they can and will impact God's kingdom with their professions,” he said. “In the field of music, we can communicate a clear purpose of sharing God's love through His great gift of music, a gift that has been a blessing to people for at least as long as history has been written down.
He said experience at the university have definitely helped to develop his faith in Jesus Christ.
“The challenges I face when teaching, developing course material and mentoring students continually remind me that I need to be rooted in Christ in order to best serve the students He's brought into my sphere,” he said. “Without Him, my role becomes quite self-serving, shallow and of lesser quality. With Him at the center, it is life-giving and powerful for me, my students and all with whom they will contact through teaching or performance.”
Aulner has bachelor and master degrees in horn performance from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. During his studies he gained performance experience in many different ensembles: the Symphony Orchestra (principal and second chair), Wind Ensemble (principal and second chair), horn choir, horn quartet, brass quintet and wind quintet. In the summer of 2022, he participated in the Saarburg Festival, where he rehearsed and performed chamber music throughout western Germany and Luxembourg. He is an active player with the Hasting Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Omaha and the Husker Horn Choir. He has also appeared with the Omaha Symphony and the Plymouth Brass.
Aulner lives in Lincoln with wife Michaela, daughter Raelynn and golden retriever Cora. The Aulners are also expecting a baby boy in early November. They attend the Christ Lincoln and enjoy participating in a small group with other young families. He enjoys playing in his church brass quintet and spending time outside.
