Ways to Spend a Weekend in the Seward Area This Fall
If the homework is light this weekend (or even if it’s not), chances are you need something exciting to do to celebrate fall and enjoy the last weeks of non-winter weather. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of fun weekend activities for college students in Seward and the surrounding area. Whether you’re inclined toward grabbing a sweet treat or spending some time outside with friends, there’s something in Seward or just a short drive away for you.
Grab some ice cream or coffee
Fall is an in-between season – the transition between summer and winter. That means that there could be 80-degree days immediately followed by 40-degree days. Luckily, there are places around Seward and the Lincoln area to grab a hot or cold treat this weekend! At 402 Creamery or the UNL Dairy Store, premium regular and seasonal ice cream flavors will cool you off on a warm day. Grab a cozy pumpkin spice latte at The Mill in Lincoln or Neutral Grounds or Bagels and Joe in Seward to warm up and energize on those chillier mornings.
Go to a farmer’s market
Both Lincoln and Seward have local farmer’s markets that offer seasonal produce, baked goods, handmade crafts and much more. Spend some time strolling around one of these and you’ll find not only a wealth of locally-grown and –made products, but also friendly members of the local community who are willing to interact, chat and help you have a great time. Best of all, farmer’s markets are a great way to spend some time outside and perhaps even try some garden fruits and vegetables or homemade baked goods while you’re at it!
Head to the park and spend time outside
Fall is undoubtedly a great time of year to spend outside. Much of the state of Nebraska experiences at least a few weeks of weather that is sunny, not too hot nor too cold and nearly perfect. So if some of those days happen to fall when you have some spare time, spend it outdoors! At Plum Creek Park in Seward, you’ll find walking trails, playgrounds, outdoor sports fields and courts and more places to entertain yourself on a beautiful fall afternoon. Or take a walk along the Plum Creek Trail – for Concordia students, it’s not more than a few steps from your dorm.
Listen to the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra
For music fans, attending a performance of the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra is a weekend must. This fall at the Lied Center just off Highway 34, they’re hosting “Melodies from Spain” on October 26, “Love, Loss, and Eternity” on November 24, and “Deck the Halls” on Sunday, December 8! Listening to music is a great way to relax, unwind and take some time to enjoy beauty on a fall weekend. Plus, hearing it live makes it an even more immersive experience.
Thrift your next fun outfit!
For some stylish fun, visit a thrift store this fall and spruce up your wardrobe. Whether you’ve been looking for a perfect new pair of jeans for a while or just want to find something new and fun, thrifting is the way to go. It lets you spend time with friends, avoid spending too much money on new clothes and still buy something new! Visit the Second Closet or Et Cetera in Seward, and you’ll find all sorts of funky, inexpensive and exciting clothing to mix up your outfits this fall!
