Barb Mertens is the Principal at St. John Lutheran School in Seward, Nebraska. Barb is starting her third year at St. John and served in Lutheran Schools for 32 years. Barb also enjoys the partnership with Concordia serving on various advisory committees and getting to know the future Education students who assist at St. John.

Barb Mertens is an alum who earned her B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood in 1993 and her Masters in Administration in 2009. Both of her undergraduate and graduate degrees were obtained at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska.

Before moving to Seward in 2021 and accepting the call to The Ministries of St. John, she served 16 years in Longmont, Colorado, 4 years in Wichita, Kansas and 10 years in Munster, Indiana.
