Derek has served at Concordia since 2023. In his role as VP of Institutional Advancement, he leads a team focused on significantly increasing constituent involvement and fundraising outcomes to meet goals and advance the mission and vision of the university. As a member of the President's Cabinet, he works closely with the President, members of the Board of Regents, directors of Concordia Foundation Nebraska and faculty and staff across the university as they envision, plan and pursue philanthropic support to move the university forward. 

Derek grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and received his B.S. in Business Administration from Concordia in 2001, where he met his wife Jennifer '02. Prior to his beginning his professional career at his alma mater in 2023, Derek held various roles in medical and healthcare sales and administration and also coached high school basketball at Lutheran High School in St. Charles, Missouri. He previously held leadership roles at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for over a decade, serving as the Associate Executive Director of Alumni Relations and most recently as the Assistant General Manager for Huskers Athletic Partners where he helped guide the multimedia and corporate partnership team.
