Malachi Million graduated with honors from Friends University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in performance. At Friends, he studied jazz guitar with Randy Zellers and classical guitar with Howard Glanton. His Master of Music in guitar performance is from the University of Arkansas, where he studied with Benjamin Harris and Jake Hertzog. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in jazz studies from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where his principal teacher was Peter Bouffard.
In May 2017, Million participated in the 11th annual Bucharest International Jazz Competition with the Akakaze Quartet from the University of Arkansas. In June 2019, he performed and taught in China with the University of Nebraska’s Graduate Jazz Combo at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. While there, he conducted several masterclasses and workshops pertaining to guitar and the rhythm section.
Million has played solo guitar in jazz and other styles and has experience performing with jazz ensembles, vocal jazz groups, jazz big bands, guitar ensembles, cover bands, metal bands, funk bands, blues bands, and worship music. He has shared the stage with jazz innovators Victor Lewis, Donny McCaslin, Matt Wilson and Pete McGuinness. He has performed with various groups in the Lincoln and Omaha area, including Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra and ensembles from Creighton University, Nebraska Wesleyan University and First-Plymouth Church.
