Director of Concordia Institution for Rural and Small Town Ministry
Rev. Russ Sommerfeld joined Concordia’s Theology faculty in 2016. He has served as a rural dual parish pastor in Kansas and a small town pastor in Nebraska, as well as serving as a senior pastor at a Nebraska church with a campus ministry. In 2015, he completed 12 years as president of the Nebraska District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. He is married to Donna “Nino,” a retired psychiatric nurse. They have two married sons and one married daughter and four granddaughters. He enjoys distance road bicycling and music.
My passion is bringing God-given years of ministry experience into the classroom with students who are eager to apply what they are learning.
