Military Tuition Assistance
Tuition Assistance (TA) is available to service members of all branches of the Armed Forces.
Speak with your Education Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within your specific branch prior to enrolling (noting the deadlines below).
Once TA is approved, please communicate with the Student Accounts Office (studentaccounts@cune.edu) so they can take the appropriate steps to submit your TA invoice.
Grades
Students will be responsible to repay any TA funds for low grades:
- Undergraduate: D grade or lower
- Graduate: C grade or lower
ARMY Federal Tuition Assistance
Benefit Highlights
- Up to $250 per credit hour; fiscal year cap of $4,000
- Maximum 16 credit hours per fiscal year
- Soldiers are limited to 130 credit hours to complete one bachelor’s degree and 39 credit hours to complete one master’s degree
- FTA is tuition assistance, which means it is for tuition only and is disbursed directly to your educational institution (EI). It does not cover fees, exams, e-learning or other expenses that are outside of an official degree plan.
- TA is NOT flexible. Soldier compliance with both documentation AND timing requirements is essential to receive approval/funding. Be sure to request TA at least 5 business days before the course start date (earlier, up to 60 days, is better).
Application Dates
- Window open - 60 days before term start
- Last day to request - 7 days before term start (includes processing time)
- Effective 29 August 2022, Soldiers utilizing the Tuition Assistance Program will need to navigate to the upgraded version of the ArmyIgnitED portal

AIR FORCE Federal Tuition Assistance
Benefit Highlights
- Up to $250 per credit hour; fiscal year cap of $4,500 in off-duty courses with accredited schools.
- Maximum 18 credit hours per fiscal year
- Soldiers are limited to 124 credit hours to complete one bachelor’s degree and 42 credit hours to complete one master’s degree
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is expected of undergrads, and 3.0 or higher for graduate students.
- FTA is tuition assistance, which means it is for tuition only and is disbursed directly to your educational institution (EI). It does not cover fees, exams, e-learning or other expenses that are outside of an official degree plan.
- TA is NOT flexible. Soldier compliance with both documentation AND timing requirements is essential to receive approval/funding. Be sure to request TA at least 7 business days before the course start date (earlier, up to 45 days, is better).
Application Dates
- Window open - 45 days before term start
- Last day for approval – no later than 7 days before term start (includes processing time)

Nebraska National Guard State Tuition Assistance
Benefit Highlights
- Nebraska Army National Guard members can only use this program if Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) is not available (FTA is expended, etc.) To use FTA, please go to ArmyIgnitED.
- Amounts paid for credit hours are based on state tuition at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and will not exceed their resident tuition charges.
- All NENG members who are approved for tuition assistance will provide the Military Department's Tuition Assistance Office with an accurate list of classes within 10 working days following the start of each term/semester.
- State tuition assistance is for tuition only and is disbursed directly to your educational institution (EI) in the rears, after grades for the applicable term have been submitted.
- Members who utilize State Tuition Assistance will agree to serve the Nebraska National Guard for 3 years after the completion of the course for which assistance is received.
- TA is NOT flexible. Soldier compliance with both documentation AND timing requirements is essential to receive approval/funding. Be sure to request TA at least 5 business days before the course start date (earlier, up to 60 days, is better).
