Ed Hoffman serves Concordia University, Nebraska as an associate professor of criminal justice in the department of human and social sciences. He has worked at the university since 2019.

“I am the director of the criminal justice program here on campus and proudly teach criminal justice courses,” he said. “I am also one of the pre-law advisors on campus and along with Dr. Kathy Miller, am the faculty advisor for the Law and Justice Club, as well as the criminal justice honor society chapter here on campus for Alpha Phi Sigma. I also sit as a decision maker for Title IX claims and work with my students as an academic advisor.”

Hoffman loves all aspects of his job but said one of the best things about it is being able to freely share his faith.

“This is an amazing place to work and grow as a Christian,” he said. “The administration, faculty and staff are united in their focus on the welfare and growth of our students. Our students are second to none, and whatever their background, this environment helps them to move forward with their educational and personal goals. It is a great place to be! I enjoy working with students, faculty and staff in this great environment and seeing students grow and mature into adults that are ready to step out into the workforce and share their faith.”

Earlier this summer, Hoffman had the opportunity to attend the Pre-Law Advisors National Council conference in New Orleans.

“Along with other faculty I was honored to work on the 3+3 law school program, where we have created an understanding with Creighton University School of Law and the University of Missouri School of Law and are working on a memorandum of understanding with the University of Nebraska College of Law,” he explained. “As part of my work, I have enjoyed being able to work with other faculty to add courses to the criminal justice major and have also enjoyed being able to work with other faculty on the addition to our curriculum of two new minors (prelaw and cybersecurity/criminal justice).”

Hoffman and his wife Pam have four children, three grandchildren and one large dog. When he is not serving the university, he is an active community volunteer, serving as a member of his church’s foundation board, the City of Lincoln Cable Advisory Board and until recently the Nebraska State Bar Association’s House of Delegates.

He reiterated that the community feel and faith focus at Concordia University, Nebraska are what makes the university a special place for faculty, staff and students alike.

“Faith and spirituality are an integral part of this campus community,” he said. “Our faculty not only share their faith but also live out that faith in their day to day interactions with our students. When you combine that with the friendly people of Nebraska, it is an amazing place to work and live.”

In Concordia University, Nebraska's pre-law program, students receive a broad foundation in critical thinking, oral and written communication and general research skills at a rigorous academic level, to prepare them to succeed at their law school of choice and ultimately serve others in the legal and criminal justice professions.
