Meet Early Childhood Graduate Program Adjunct Professor Cheryl Haun
Cheryl Haun serves Concordia University, Nebraska as an adjunct professor for the university’s early childhood graduate program and early childhood administrator's certificate courses. She has worked at the university since 2015.
“I teach early childhood graduate courses online throughout the year,” she explained. “On occasion, I assist with writing and editing classes and adding components of Lutheran Identity to the early childhood courses of study.”
Haun has a bachelor of science degree in environmental education from Indiana University. She also attended Concordia University, Chicago, participated in the colloquy program, and has a master’s degree in early childhood curriculum and instruction. She also completed post graduate work in educational leadership, earning an Ed.S. from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
I enjoy assisting teachers and teacher candidates in perfecting their craft, especially in the area of spiritual development.
An accomplished educator, she has received numerous accolades and awards including the 2018 Lutheran Education Association (LEA) Early Childhood Education Administrator's Award. In addition, she serves as an early childhood consultant for the Missouri District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She is also the creator of the Spiritual Nurture Video Series, which was produced by LEA in 2023.
“I enjoy assisting teachers and teacher candidates in perfecting their craft, especially in the area of spiritual development,” she said. “There isn't any greater honor than figuring out how to expand God's kingdom and reveal His plan of salvation for all children and their families everywhere! Quite honestly, it's the best job anywhere!”
She said the Christ-centered focus prevalent at Concordia Nebraska makes the university a special place to work.
“The focus of Concordia Nebraska is Christ! It is a shared focus and intention throughout the faculty, staff and amongst the students! This Christ-like focus makes the university a very special place to work and serve,” she said. “Teaching and guiding students requires prayer and wisdom; prayer and wisdom which I lack without a developing and deepening faith. Concordia Nebraska is a place that encourages faith-learning for faculty and students alike.”
In addition to serving Concordia Nebraska, she also serves in ministry with her husband, who is a full-time chaplain in Webster Groves. She loves spending time with family, her four granddaughters and friends. She also enjoys camping with family and friends, birding and photography.
She said that she gains great joy from working to support Lutheran education and educators through her role at the university.
“It is my hope that students on campus and online will sense the joy of serving in Lutheran education and be stirred to consider teacher candidacy in the Lutheran teacher education program at Concordia Nebraska,” she said.
Graduate students at Concordia University, Nebraska studying early childhood education gain in-depth knowledge to increase pedagogy and leadership skills. These skills will enable them to positively impact young children and their learning.
