The former Concordia athletics administrator and coach lived a fulfilling life of service while showing immense care for student-athletes and the university. Dr. Everts’ obituary can be found HERE. The biographical sketch below comes from 2010 when Everts was inducted into the Concordia Athletics Hall of Fame. Concordia University, Nebraska celebrates the life of Dr. Carl Everts.

Dr. Carl Everts directed a multitude of teams to success during his many years at Concordia University.  Everts returned to his Alma Mater in Seward in 1969 as a coach and professor. He accepted the position of Athletic Director and was the Chairman of the Division of Health and Physical Education from 1973-1980. He resumed duties as Concordia’s Athletic Director from 1986 to his retirement in 1994.

In the spring of 1970, Everts was the first head coach for men’s golf since the program was disbanded in the late 1960s. He was the men’s golf coach until he retired. During his reign as head coach, he led Concordia to 92 multi-team winning events.

Dr. Everts was also the first coach to represent the Concordia University women’s golf team. Concordia had an outstanding first two seasons and won both the District 11 and Conference (NIAC) meets. During Coach Everts’ time as head coach, the women won 43 multi-team events.

For 11 years, Everts coached the women’s basketball team beginning in the 1981-82 season. During his tenure, he took the Concordia women to the District Playoffs six times. In 1991-92, Concordia won the District Tournament and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history.  That team was inducted into the Concordia Hall of Fame in 2009. Everts led the Bulldogs to victory seven times in the Concordia Invitational Tournament. His overall record was 195-127. He earned NAIA District 11 Coach of the Year honors in 1982-83 and 1986-87.

It is important to note that Everts also coached baseball and soccer for one year during his time at Concordia.

“Concordia changed my life,” Everts said. “When I started at Concordia as a college freshman in 1948, I was very unsure of myself, both with regard to my relationship with Christ and my plans for the future. But with the guidance and teaching of my professors and the influence of my fellow students, I gradually was able to strengthen my faith and resolved to share that faith with others by becoming a Lutheran teacher. It also helped that I met my wife here, a true helpmate for the last 57 years.”
