·        Notable: The Bulldogs went on the road for two doubleheaders last week as they split at Hastings and then got swept by No. 11 Northwestern. A couple of themes continued as Megan Eurich put together three fine outings in the circle while the Concordia offense struggled. In the one win of the week, Eurich fired a four-hit shutout in the 2-0 Bulldog victory at Hastings. Concordia’s runs came via a Kylie Shottenkirk home run and a Zoie Isom sacrifice fly. For the week, Eurich threw 19 innings and allowed only three earned runs (1.11 ERA) on 15 hits and nine walks to go along with 13 strikeouts. The Gretna, Neb., native moved past 100 strikeouts for the second season in a row. As a team, the Bulldogs hit just .218 (19-for-87) last week while being held to a combined four runs. ·        Notable: Head Coach Matt Beisel and his staff reconfigured last week’s Concordia Invite, which wound up being a one-day competition as opposed to the two-day meet originally scheduled. Bulldog athletes took advantage of sunny and warm weather while combining for 10 performances that met the automatic national qualifying standard, seven ‘B’ marks and 13 event championships. In addition, sophomore Adrianna Rodencal broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a finals time of 13.84 (No. 2 in the NAIA). Other new ‘A’ standards were delivered by the women’s 4x400-meter relay and Darien Semedo in the hammer throw. Those results bring the program total number of NAIA auto marks to 12 this 2024 outdoor season. While Rodencal won the 100 hurdles, other event champions at the Concordia Invite were the men’s 4x800-meter relay, Jenna Esch (400 meters), Kylahn Freiberg (1,500 meters), Abby Gerber (shot put-unseeded), Jordan Koepke (400 hurdles), Kiki Nyanok (long jump), Nathan Pennekamp (3,000m steeplechase), Joel Rathe (long jump), Calvin Rohde (1,500 meters), Darien Semedo (hammer-unseeded), Chris Wren (hammer) and Zach Zohner (pole vault). Wren threw a hammer PR of 198’ 6,” putting him just shy of becoming the fifth Bulldog to ever reach 200 feet. The outdoor season will continue on Saturday with competition at the South Dakota Track & Field Challenge hosted by NCAA Division I University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

·        Notable: It was a six-game week for the Bulldogs who went up against in-state foes in No. 9 Doane and Midland. The week was characterized by extreme windy conditions. In a wild doubleheader with Doane, Concordia rallied from an 11-6 deficit in game one and eventually prevailed, 14-13, after Jay Adams’ walk-off RBI single. The Bulldogs then earned the sweep with the help of a Joey Grabanski two-run homer and clutch pitching in relief from Jacob Lycan. Concordia went on to take three of four games from Midland while winning the final three games of the series in dominant fashion. For the week, Grabanski went 8-for-19 (.462) with five home runs. His 76 career home runs put him one shy of the all-time NAIA record of 77 by Brice Cutspec of Azusa Pacific. It was also a fine week for the likes of Ty Nekoliczak (11-for-22 with five runs, a homer and six RBIs), Alec Blakestad (9-for-23 with three doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs) and Adams (9-for-25 with a home run and eight RBIs). The Bulldog offense has produced 76 home runs through the season’s first 37 games and continues to pace the GPAC in virtually all major statistical offensive categories. On the mound, both Christian Gutierrez and Braxton Greenburg fired complete games during the Midland series. Caden Johnson also earned the 22nd win of his career (third most in program history). Concordia enters this week tied for first place in the GPAC with Doane (both 12-4). A pivotal four-game road series is up next as the Bulldogs will take on fellow 2023 national qualifier Morningside in Sioux City.
