Bulldog Athletic Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Week
Female: Seohyeon Jang, Tennis
A freshman from Seoul, South Korea, Seohyeon Jang won six singles matches on her way to the ITA Central West Regional Championship. In the regional final, Jang defeated Doane’s Maria Purizaca in three sets. Jang also reached the doubles semifinals along with teammate Chakira Derman. Jang is a Business Administration major.
Male: Elijah Fulton, Men’s Soccer
A freshman from Gretna, Neb., Elijah Fulton sparked the Bulldogs in last week’s 2-1 win at Doane. Fulton tied the score with his first career goal in the 81st minute. Fulton and the GPAC leading Bulldogs went on to defeat Morningside by a 3-0 final. Fulton is studying Elementary Education.

BAAM luncheons are held every Tuesday (when classes are in session) at 12 p.m. CT inside the Dog House Grill, located in the Janzow Campus Center. The luncheons feature reports from head coaches who are in season at the time. For information on how to join BAAM, click HERE. Twenty Bulldog programs honored with NAIA Scholar-Team awards for 2025-26: As announced as part of NAIA National Awards Day on Sept. 15, Concordia University, Nebraska was represented with 20 NAIA Scholar-Team awards for the 2025-26 academic year. The award honors teams that achieve a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the nominating institution. For a complete list of team award winners, click HERE.
Jang wins ITA regional singles championship: The play of Seohyeon Jang continues to be a major storyline this fall for Bulldog Tennis. The freshman from Seoul, South Korea, captured the women’s singles championship at the 2026 ITA Central West Regional Championship in Salina, Kan., where action took place Sept. 25-27. Jang cruised through the bracket with six victories, ultimately winning the title match over Doane’s Maria Purizaca, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. In the same bracket, teammate Chakira Derman reached the round of 16. In doubles, Jang and Derman advanced to the semifinals before having to withdraw from the tournament. In men’s doubles, the Concordia duo of Daniel Caballeros and Ben Chisholm reached the quarterfinals after collecting two wins. The run stopped with an 8-5 loss in the quarters. In men’s singles, both Caballeros and Davi Costa notched a win apiece. By winning the regional championship, Jang will advance to play in the ITA Cup scheduled for Oct. 15-18 in Rome, Ga. Ballfield Project underway, funding still sought: Over the summer, Concordia University, Nebraska went public with the Shine Forth Campaign, an initiative that includes the hybrid baseball-softball Ballfield Project. Concordia continues to seek funding for the project, which will bring a state-of-the-art facility to the east part of campus. Lifting Sports seasons on the horizon: Concordia University, Nebraska Lifting Sports seasons will get started during the month of October. The 2026-27 campaign will mark year five of competition for Bulldog powerlifting and weightlifting. This Saturday (Oct. 3), the powerlifting program will host the CUNE Collegiate Powerlifting Meet inside the Walz Fieldhouse. Bulldog Coaches Show airs every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT: The Bulldog Coaches Show has returned for a 12th year. The show airs live for a half hour every Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT on KTMX-FM 104.9 Max Country. The weekly feature can also be heard live via 104.9 Max Country’s website or by downloading the Max Country app. Throughout the 2026-27 season, Bulldog football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball contests will be aired live on Max Country. Parker Cyza serves as the host of the coaches’ show as well as the play-by-play voice for football and basketball. Eric Allgood will be the primary voice for volleyball.
Concordia Sports Network: Live webcasts for most home varsity contests can be accessed by visiting https://www.cune.edu/athletics/watch-bulldogs at game time. Beginning with the 2023-24 academic year, Concordia Athletics began a partnership with Hudl for live video streaming. Live webcast links for away contests are publicized in sport specific releases that preview action for that particular week. Scrimmages, exhibitions and junior varsity events are not broadcasted via the Hudl account. For select JV streams, check out that specific sport’s Facebook page. Starting in 2026-27, Concordia broadcasts are simulcast with the GPAC Network and Urban Edge Network.
Women’s Soccer

· Notable: The upward trend continues for Head Coach Jason Weides’ squad, which stands atop the GPAC standings in the early part of the conference slate. Following the previous week’s 3-1 win at Dordt, the Bulldogs earned triumphs over Doane, 2-0, on the road, and over Morningside, 2-1, at home. In order, last week’s goals were delivered by Kianna Perez and Guadulupe Sanchez at Doane and then by Abby Haynes and Sanchez versus Morningside. The clash with winless Doane was a struggle until Perez got on the board at the 69-minute mark. The Tigers have not beaten or drawn with Concordia since 2013. Shots were even with Doane, 11-11. Three days later, the Bulldogs picked up perhaps their most impressive win this season as they edged defending GPAC regular season champion Morningside and avenged a 3-1 defeat from 2025. The recent production of the Columbus, Neb., native Haynes is worth noting. She’s totaled three goals and three assists over the past five outings. Defensively, Concordia has surrendered only two goals over its past four games. On the attacking end, the Grand Island native Sanchez tops the team with four goals (and three assists). The Bulldogs will put their undefeated GPAC mark on the line this week when they host College of Saint Mary on Thursday and then travel to Briar Cliff on Saturday. Concordia is 3-0 to begin league play for the first time since the 2023 season.

Men’s Soccer

· Notable: The Bulldogs have found a winning formula under Head Coach Bernie Ochoa. The win streak moved to four last week as Concordia earned conference victories at Doane, 2-1, and over Morningside, 3-0. It took a rally in Crete, where the Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at the 80-minute mark. Concordia erased the deficit as Elijah Fulton came through with the game-tying goal in the 81st minute. Less than five minutes later, William Preston found the game of the net for the game winner. In their return to Bulldog Stadium, the Bulldogs eliminated the drama by scoring three times in the first half – via Joe McCarroll (29’), Kade Olbrich (34’) and Hugo Garrote (44’). Kade Olbrich’s first career goal was assisted by his older brother Kai. Keeper Florian Quast made five saves in the win at Doane before earning credit for a shutout versus Morningside in a rematch of the 2025 GPAC Championship Game. Junior Sean Stratman earned high marks for his continued stellar play at center back. Concordia has surrendered just one goal since the start of conference play. Dating back to last season, the Bulldogs have won nine straight games against GPAC opponents (including the 2025 GPAC tournament championship run). Concordia has a break in the middle of this week while preparing for Saturday’s trip to Briar Cliff. The Bulldogs are the only GPAC team without a conference defeat heading into the month of October.

Cross Country

· Notable: An audible was called when the Greeno-Dirksen Invite scheduled for Sept. 19 was cancelled. Head Coach Matt Beisel reacted by adding this past Friday’s Augustana Invitational to the calendar. Concordia turned in place finishes of 10th out of 20 on the women’s side and 11th out of 19 on the men’s side in its return to Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. (the same location of the season opening Augustana Twilight). The races (men’s 8K and women’s 6K) featured athletes from the NAIA and all divisions of the NCAA. The top five for the Bulldog men were Aidan Limback (25:25.9; 50th), Vaughn Hendrickson (25:48.1; 79th), Trey Robertson (25:53.0; 83rd), Ransom Watts (26:11.4; 102nd) and Keith Siek (26:19.7; 112th). The women’s top five were Hope Beck (22:07.1; 43rd), Ashley Robertson (22:43.4; 77th), Rachel Prince (23:06.8; 92nd), Amanda Smith (23:12.8; 100th) and Katie Johnsen (23:28.4; 116th). Concordia entered the meet having received votes (men and women) in the NAIA national ratings released on Sept. 24. Due to the revisions in the schedule, the Bulldogs are set to be in action for three straight weeks with the Briar Cliff Invite (Oct. 3) and Dordt Holiday Inn Classic (Oct. 10) up next on the docket. Three October meets will set the stage for the 2026 GPAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Dordt on Nov. 7.

· Notable: Head Coach Brett Muller’s women’s team has celebrated back-to-back tournament championships. The latest victory came at last week’s York Fall Invitational at York Country Club, where the Bulldogs shot 336-340–676 (+116) and held off GPAC rival College of Saint Mary by a single stroke. Three of the top four individual finishers were Concordia players: graduate student Maddie Lewis (83-83–166), junior Savannah McFalls (83-87–170) and freshman Mia Ochsner (87-83–170). Prior to the title at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic, the Bulldog women’s program most recently won a tournament championship in September 2020. Lewis currently tops the women’s team with a season scoring average of 81.6. Meanwhile, the men’s team was in action on the same two days (Sept. 21-22) last week and placed ninth in a strong field at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate hosted by Iowa Western Community College. The top players for Concordia were sophomores Logan Krabbenhoft (74-79-76–229) and Tyler Weismann (81-72-79–232) and junior Landon Weinandt (76-77-80–233), who each placed top 40 individually. The leader on the men’s side, in terms of season scoring average, is sophomore Calvin Zabloudil at 76.7. Both Concordia teams have played in four varsity tournaments and will wrap up their fall semester schedules next week at the Nebraska Intercollegiate in Cairo, Neb. The event annually hosts Nebraska teams for a chance to earn state bragging rights.

Shooting Sports

· Notable: Bragging rights were on the line among regional rivals this past weekend as the Bulldogs took part in the 2026 Prairie Circuit Conference Championships in Grand Island, Neb. When the dust settled, Concordia landed in fourth place out of seven teams with an HOA total of 2,654. Each athlete took aim at 600 total targets across the disciplines of skeet, skeet doubles, sporting, super sporting, trap and trap doubles. Graduate student Katie Welker-Luetje came away as the women’s HOA champion after cracking 544/600 targets. She was also the women’s runner up in doubles trap. By discipline, Welker-Luetje shared the team lead in both trap (96) and skeet (98) with junior Clayton Gellerman and with grad student Devin Harris in doubles trap (98). Meanwhile, Harris emerged as the top Dawg in sporting (84) and skeet doubles (93) and Gellerman led the way in super sporting (88). Welker-Luetje was followed on the team HOA leaderboard by Harris (535), Gellerman (528), sophomore Jerry Kaibel (513) and senior Jaggar Luetje (481). Eleven of the 19 Bulldogs produced totals above 450. As a team, Concordia shot scores of 473 in trap, 442 in doubles trap, 482 in skeet, 448 in skeet doubles, 405 in sporting and 404 in super sporting. The top three in the conference team standings were Midland University (2,820), William Penn University (2,795) and Fort Hays State University (2,783). Next up, Head Coach Dylan Owens’ Bulldogs will head back to Grand Island for this weekend’s Hastings Bronco Invite.

Football

· Notable: While playing at home for the third time this season, the Bulldogs hung tight with 16th-ranked Dordt for a half before eventually falling, 51-21. Concordia closed within 21-14 late in the first half thanks to a 19-yard touchdown rush from Carlos Collazo and 75-yard touchdown strike from Gideon Stark to Adam Van Cleave. However, the Defenders rattled off the next 27 points and controlled the clock (39:20 in time of possession). Collazo finished with 113 rushing yards and a touchdown, marking the sixth 100-yard rushing performance of his career. Van Cleave made his return to the field after missing out on last week’s win over Mount Marty and snagged nine receptions for 142 yards and a score. Stark threw for 171 yards and a touchdown. The final Bulldog touchdown of the game came on a 46-yard sprint to the end zone by backup quarterback Camden Jensen. Defensively, there were three Concordia players with double-digit tackles: Jett Farwell (11), Deegan Barnes (10) and Kaden Thompson (10). A week after capitalizing on six turnovers, the Bulldogs were unable to force Dordt into any miscues. A string of three straight road games begins this Saturday with a trip to Orange City, Iowa, for a matchup with Northwestern. Concordia won 2024 and 2025 meetings with the Red Raiders.

Volleyball

· Notable: It was a snappy week of action as the second-ranked Bulldogs played the minimum number of sets while going on the road against a pair of Tigers, Doane and No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan. The victories kept Head Coach Ben Boldt’s squad unbeaten in league play at 6-0. Blocking was a theme of last week as Concordia outnumbered its two foes, 20-6, in that category. The ringleaders in the block department were Bella Hedke (10), Makenna Starkey (nine), Laynee Baker (eight) and Maddie Paulsen (seven). The Wayne State College transfer Hedke also smoldered on the attack as she notched 17 kills on 31 attempts at Doane/DWU. It was also a fine all-around week for the do-it-all Shandy Fa’ali’i, who led the attack with 27 kills (.295 hitting percentage). Other statistical leaders for the week included Myla Emery in assists (38) and aces (three – tied with Clara Evert) and Fa’ali’i in digs (17). Concordia has beaten three NAIA top 25 teams this season: No. 7 McPherson College (Kan.), No. 16 Midland and No. 12 Dakota Wesleyan. The Bulldogs and Northwestern are currently tied atop the GPAC standings with Morningside at 6-1. Concordia will be back home this week as it looks forward to hosting Briar Cliff and No. 14 Morningside. The program will honor four seniors prior to first serve on Saturday. The seniors are Lanie Brott, Ava Greene, Bella Hedke and Maddie Paulsen.
