·        Last week

o   Won vs. Waldorf, 45-7, on Aug. 31.

·        Links: 2024 Schedule | Roster | Statistics

·        Notable: The season opener inside Bulldog Stadium wasn’t in doubt for long as quarterback DJ McGarvie and the Concordia offense scored touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions in the first half. The Bulldogs built a 45-0 halftime lead over new GPAC member Waldorf. The final score came in at 45-7 in a contest that saw Concordia enjoy a 565-209 total yards advantage. McGarvie tossed three touchdowns – two to tight end John Goodwin and one to tight end Daylan Russell – and Carlos Collazo gained 128 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. McGarvie and No. 2 quarterback Gideon Stark combined to make use of eight different receivers (Adam Van Cleave caught seven passes for 80 yards). Defensively, the Bulldogs were impressive with seven tackles for loss, three sacks and a safety caused by the pressure of Kyle Sterup. Linebacker Grant Huss led the defense with 12 tackles. Next up, Head Coach Patrick Daberkow’s squad will face a more daunting task while hosting No. 10 Morningside on Saturday. The Mustangs will be coming off a 48-45 shootout home loss to No. 19 Benedictine College (Kan.). The Bulldogs will attempt to knock off Morningside for the first time since 2003.

·        For details on this week’s matchup with Morningside, check out the game notes linked HERE.

·        This week:

o   Saturday, Sept. 7 vs. No. 10 Morningside (0-1), 7 p.m. CT.

Women’s Soccer

·        Current record: 1-1.

·        Last week:

o   Lost at No. 10 Columbia College (Mo.), 4-0, on Aug. 31.

·        Links: 2024 Schedule | Roster | Statistics

·        Notable: Head Coach Nick Smith’s squad opened an anticipated season with two road trips last week. Despite a bit of an uneven performance at Graceland University (Iowa) on Aug. 28, the Bulldogs came away with a 4-2 win on the strength of four goals from star junior striker Kierstynn Garner.  The Kearney, Neb., native Kearney became the fourth player in program history to post at least four goals in a single game, joining Jennifer Davis (five in 2002), Alexa Koczman (five in 2000) and teammate Savannah Andrews (four in 2023). Three days later, Concordia struggled out of the gate and never recovered in what amounted to a 4-0 loss at 10th-ranked Columbia College (Mo.). The Bulldogs were limited to four shots (two on goal) in the defeat. Senior Angela Banks has gotten the nod in goal so far this season and has tallied nine saves. Concordia will attempt to get back into the win column on Wednesday as it hosts in-state foe Bellevue University. The Bulldogs went 8-1-3 at home in 2023.

o   Tied at No. 17 Columbia College (Mo.), 1-1, on Aug. 31.

·        Links: 2024 Schedule | Roster | Statistics | NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Poll

·        Notable: Two ties resulted from road trips to Iowa and Missouri as nonconference play continued last week. Head Coach Jason Weides’ squad played to a 0-0 stalemate at Graceland University (Iowa), on Aug. 28. The Yellowjackets appear to have improved immensely since last season when the Bulldogs defeated them by a 2-1 score. Three days later, the Bulldogs earned a more impressive tie while drawing, 1-1, at No. 17 Columbia College (Mo.), a perennially strong NAIA program. The lone Concordia goal in that contest was put away by transfer Aidan Nachi, who was assisted by D’Andre Williams in the 33rd minute. The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead for roughly six minutes before the Cougars responded with an equalizer late in the first half. In goal, Nolan Fuelberth made eight saves to preserve the tie. The results mean that Concordia’s regular season unbeaten streak remains intact. The Bulldogs are 21-0-8 over their last 29 regular season outings. Two more nonconference games are coming up this week as Concordia will host No. 7 Bellevue University on Wednesday before traveling to Grand View University (Iowa) on Saturday.

o   Won vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Okla.), 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, on Aug. 31.

·        Notable: Following a 5-0 start, the fourth-ranked Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season. Concordia was beaten in three sets by No. 14 Bellevue University in a match dominated by the Bruins. Head Coach Ben Boldt’s squad bounced back nicely the next day and claimed a win over No. 5 Viterbo University (Wis.) in four sets and then a victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State University (Okla.) in a quick three sets. The Bulldogs have earned triumphs over three NAIA top 10 foes in nonconference action: No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University, No. 5 Viterbo and No. 7 Columbia College (Mo.). Individual statistical leaders over the past weekend included Gabi Nordaker in kills (26) and blocks (11), Becca Gebhardt in digs (32), Savannah Shelburne in assists (63) and Cassidy Knust in aces (five). Four other Bulldogs totaled at least 19 kills on the weekend: Ella Waters (25), Ashley Keck (21), Kya Scott (21) and Addie Kirkegaard (19). ·        Notable: Both of Head Coach Brett Muller’s squads opened their 2024-25 seasons at the Mount Marty Invite last week. The tournaments played out over two days and featured 36 holes of action. The program held its Blue-White Alumni Run on Aug. 31 as a tune-up for the season’s first official meet. This past 2023 season, the Bulldogs turned in GPAC placements of second on the women’s side and third on the men’s side.
