NAIA Awards Day: Concordia totals 214 Scholar-Athletes, 20 Scholar-Teams for 2021-22

SEWARD, Neb. – In conjunction with NAIA National Awards Day on Thursday (Sept. 15), the NAIA announced 2021-22 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes and NAIA Scholar-Teams. Concordia University Athletics totaled 214 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and 20 NAIA Scholar-Teams for the 2021-22 academic year. This marks the third year in a row that Concordia has surpassed 200 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The number of Scholar-Teams remained the same.

In order to be nominated for Scholar-Athlete honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer (at the close of the 2021-22 academic year). Scholar-Teams qualify for recognition by achieving at least a 3.0 GPA. Nationally, more than 11,000 Scholar-Athletes and 2,000 Scholar-Teams were recognized.

Concordia University ranks as the NAIA’s all-time leader in number of Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes with 2,121 and counting. The new timeline (beginning in 2019-20) for announcing NAIA Scholar-Athletes resulted in a larger number of student-athletes being eligible to garner the award. The school record for number of Scholar-Athletes in one academic year is 226 achieved in 2019-20. Concordia has been a regular national leader for both Scholar-Athletes and Scholar-Teams.
