LINCOLN, Neb. – After having been idle since the ACUI Collegiate Clay Targets Western Super Shoot (Jan. 24-27) in Tucson, Ariz., several members of the Concordia University shooting sports team returned to action at the Doane Tiger Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., March 9-10. Among the five teams at the competition, the Bulldogs placed third high overall with a score of 1,425/1,750.
Head coach Scott Moniot’s squad competed in six events back in the fall before taking part in the ACUI Western Super Shoot. The Doane Invite included Doane, Hastings, the University of Minnesota and Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
Each of the top five Bulldogs who contributed to the team’s high overall score are either freshmen or sophomores. Concordia was led in the high overall department by sophomore Mackenze Origer (297), freshman Colten Uitermarkt (297), freshman Russell Malterud (285), sophomore Rebecca Tierney (273) and freshman Tommy Sosso (271). The scores reflect how many targets were hit out of a possible 350.
Broken down by discipline, the top Bulldogs were Origer in sporting clays (81), Uitermarkt in both American skeet (96) and international skeet (42) and Malterud in trap. As a team, Concordia placed second in both American skeet (454/500) and trap (449/500) and third in sporting clays (360/500) and international skeet (177/250). Twelve Bulldogs were in action at the two-day event hosted by Doane.
The ACUI National Championships are all that remain on the 2018-19 schedule for Concordia shooting sports. The national event is scheduled to unfold in San Antonio, Texas, March 23-31.
