SEWARD, Neb. – While there will be no official All-America baseball teams released by the NAIA for 2020, NAIA Ball (@NAIABall on Twitter) has helped fill the void. A consistent source of NAIA baseball coverage, NAIA Ball announced Concordia University baseball senior Jason Munsch to its All NAIA Ball First Team on Tuesday (April 14). The first team included three starting pitchers.
NAIA Ball chose Georgia Gwinnett’s Hunter Peck as its Pitcher of the Year in a debate that came down between Peck and Munsch, two dominant lefty hurlers. Munsch made his four starts this spring count and was twice named the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Munsch appeared on track to put together the greatest season ever by a Bulldog pitcher. The only official NAIA All-American pitcher in Concordia history was Nick Little (honorable mention in 2018).
In 26 innings of work in 2020, Munsch allowed just a single unearned run on nine hits and six walks. He struck out at least nine hitters in each of his four starts while totaling 59 punch outs. The native of Campbell, Calif., tossed a seven-inning, 16-strikeout no-hitter at Briar Cliff on March 13 prior to the cancelation of the remainder of the season. In his career, Munsch notched a 17-9 record with a 2.78 ERA and 281 strikeouts in 184.2 innings.
