Concordia's run at the Tucson Invitational got started on Saturday (March 2) with a pair of games in perfect weather. The Bulldogs trounced Dakota Wesleyan, 16-1, before a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Concordia St. Paul.
A challenging nonconference slate will continue at the Tucson Invitational for the Bulldog baseball team, which has already played three games versus the No. 8 ranked team. The Tucson Invite will run March 2-9.
Concordia got solid pitching performances from Sasha Jabusch and Tanner Wauhob and another fine day from leadoff man Wade Council while splitting a Sunday (Feb. 24) doubleheader at No. 8 Oklahoma City.
Despite a home run apiece on the day from Evan Bohman, Keaton Candor and Luciano DePamphilis, the Bulldogs dropped games to MidAmerica Nazarene and Oklahoma City on their opening day of the 2019 season.
Head coach Ryan Dupic returns a trio of all-conference position players in Wade Council, Christian Meza and Thomas Sautel for a baseball program looking for a rebound season in 2019.
Baseball was the only choice as far as Christian Meza was concerned. The game has led him to Concordia, where he's become one of the GPAC's top infielders and a steadying force for the baseball program.
A year after a tying for sixth place, head coach Ryan Dupic's squad has been pegged by league coaches to finish fifth in the GPAC. Concordia returns leading hitters Christian Meza and Wade Council.
Trips to Oklahoma City and Tucson will greet the Concordia baseball team when it opens up the 2019 season this coming February and March. The Bulldogs are coming off a 25-22 record in 2018.
The Concordia Baseball Program shared the top GPA among all NAIA baseball teams in 2017-18, allowing it to pick up another award last week from the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Six Bulldogs represented the baseball team with All-Nebraska honors, as announced by the Omaha World-Herald on June 23. The team includes the likes of Christian Meza at second and Thomas Sautel at third.
