SEWARD, Neb. – Standouts in the classroom and on the court at Concordia University, Nebraska, senior Tanner Shuck and sophomore Carter Kent have been named to the 2020 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Shuck and Kent both landed on the NAIA All-District 3 team, which features seven student-athletes from the region. Shuck has garnered the CoSIDA accolade for the second year in a row.
The 2019-20 Academic All-District® Men's and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, were announced on February 20. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NAIA, NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III.
A native of Grand Island, Neb., Shuck earned degrees in secondary education and mathematics from Concordia. As of the announcement, Shuck has accumulated 1,494 points, 448 rebounds, 256 assists and 116 steals over 121 career games with the Bulldogs. As a senior, Shuck is averaging 12.8 points and has knocked down 52 3-point field goals. He was recently named the MVP of the Concordia Invitational Tournament and is a two-time honorable mention All-GPAC choice.
A product of Crete High School, Kent carries a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while studying biology. He was named the 2018-19 GPAC Freshman of the Year. Kent has taken his game to another level as a sophomore and is currently averaging 12.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor. Back-to-back 25-point outings in early January resulted in him being tabbed GPAC Player of the Week.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced between March 9-12.
