LISTEN: Ben Limback joins Max Country
SEWARD, Neb. – As part of a series of coaches interviews with 104.9 Max Country, Concordia University head men’s basketball coach Ben Limback chatted with Evan Jones in an interview that became available on Thursday (June 4). Limback covered topics such as handling the pandemic, outlook for next season, new leaders expected to emerge and competing for another berth at the national tournament. Below is a snippet from the interview.
The Bulldogs have graduated four-year contributors in Tanner Shuck and Brevin Sloup as well as defensive force Chuol Biel. However, Concordia will return all-conference players in juniors-to-be Carter Kent and Justin Wiersema. Ryan Holt, Sam Scarpelli and Grant Wragge will be the most experienced seniors on the roster. Together they helped the Bulldogs go 24-10 overall last season. The run included a GPAC tournament title and a national tournament berth. NAIA basketball will move from two divisions to one for 2020-21. The new campaign is slated to open in Hastings against Peru State College on Oct. 30.
Coach Limback: “Last season was a great season but I think there’s a lot of hunger and excitement for this upcoming year. This team has its sights set on even bigger accomplishments. Certainly the scope of the season changes with the shift to one division in the NAIA and not knowing what’s going to happen with the virus and what impact that’s going to have on our season, if any. There’s a lot of uncertainty but also excitement going into it. I think this team wants to accomplish even bigger things. We want to compete for that GPAC title, something that’s never been done before here at Concordia – the regular season title. We want to make another push at the national tournament. Our hope is to get there and compete and see how high we can climb. That’s certainly something this team is focused and motivated to do.”
