YORK, Neb. – As part of a massive weekend of competition, Concordia University Competitive Cheer tightened its routine on Friday (Feb. 10) and bounced back nicely from disappointment a week ago at the Doane Invite. The latest competition saw the Bulldogs celebrate a school record score of 82.03, a figure that placed them fourth out of 15 teams at the York University Crown Classic. Concordia will welcome essentially the same field of squads to its own event on Saturday.
The score of 82.03 represented an improvement nearly 12 points from the Bulldogs’ total last week at Doane. Head Coach Mandi Maser’s squad was also just .08 away from placing third and was roughly two points off event champion Grand View University (Iowa).
Said Maser, “Cheer did an excellent job. They put their best routine on the mat after persevering from last week’s performance. They recovered from not hitting it at the Doane Invite and performed great. It was a really fun competition with a good, competitive environment. I thought everyone performed well all-around.”
The previous school record score of 77.2 had been set earlier this season in a dual meet with Morningside. Never before had Concordia Cheer cracked 80. They achieved that feat on Friday while rolling 11 athletes onto the mat inside the Freeman Center in York, Neb. Impressively, the Bulldogs did not have any deductions on Friday.
