Overview
As part of the dual format, Concordia will be matched up against Waldorf University and Mount Mercy University (Iowa) in cheer and will take on William Penn University (Iowa) and St. Ambrose University (Iowa) for dance. Entering the week, Head Coaches Mandi Maser and Emilie Ashenbach have put their teams to the test in two competitions for dance and one for cheer. In dance, the Bulldogs earned a score of 80.7 in a dual win over College of Saint Mary on Jan. 18. Both squads then competed at the Concordia Invitational Tournament (Jan. 25) in Ann Arbor, Mich., where cheer placed second and dance placed third.
On the current NAIA national leaderboard, the Bulldogs rank sixth in dance (80.7) while cheer has yet to compete in an official NAIA event. The CIT competitions did not count towards the official NAIA scoring system due to the use of a different scoring rubric. Concordia’s average scores in 2024 were 80.57 for dance and 80.72 for cheer.
The field of teams at the Concordia Day of Duals will be made up exclusively of NAIA institutions. The GPAC squads that will be present are Doane, Dordt, Hastings (dance only), Morningside (dance only), Mount Marty (cheer only) and Northwestern. While the event features a series of duals, the teams with the highest scoring average for both cheer and dance will be rewarded during the closing ceremony.
Senior recognition: Before scores and awards are announced on Saturday, Concordia will honor its senior class. The four seniors within the cheer and dance programs are:
· Nathalie Fortenberry (Bend, Ore.)
· Lexi Mack (Wilber, Neb.)
· Seanna Patterson (Lincoln, Neb.)
· Katheryn Rice (Bellevue, Neb.)
