SEWARD, Neb. – The scores shot upward for Concordia University, Nebraska Competitive Cheer on Saturday (Feb. 8) as the Bulldogs hosted the annual Concordia Cheer & Dance Duals. Concordia won its duals by scores of 76.2 to 51.9 over Waldorf University (Iowa) and 76.8 to 68.85 over Mount Mercy University (Iowa) inside Friedrich Arena. On the cheer side of things, the competition featured a total of 12 duals and 24 routines.
The Concordia Duals capped a major weekend of competition that included a seventh-place Bulldog finish at Friday’s York University Crown Classic. Head Coach Emilie Ashenbach was pleased with the progress she observed.
“I’m really proud of the routines we put out today in both duals against tough competition,” Ashenbach said. “Hitting zero-deduction routines is a huge accomplishment and shows the team’s hard work paying off. The energy and excitement were there, and the girls are hungry for more. We’re heading into the week focused and ready to keep pushing as we prepare to show up strong at MidAmerica Nazarene next weekend.”
Concordia’s competition roster of eight athletes carried over from the event at York. The scores in the mid-70s were a leap from the 69.97 that the Bulldogs earned on Friday night. In front of the home fans on Saturday, Concordia managed to beat out other GPAC foes such as Dordt, Mount Marty and Waldorf from an overall scoring perspective.
The loaded field at the Concordia Duals included three 2024 NAIA national qualifiers in MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.), Missouri Valley College and Northwestern. The Red Raiders emerged as the highest scoring squad at the Concordia Duals. Northwestern’s 93.45 in round two represented the top single competition score of the day.
