In another big step for the NAIA emerging sport of cheer, the GPAC held the first ever conference invite on Saturday. At the event hosted in Fremont, Neb., by Midland University, head coach Daneen Kovar Theye’s Bulldog cheer squad finished runner up in the “non stunt” category.
Concordia cheer captain Jessica Olson is used to being referred to as “Miss Iowa,” as dance and cheer coach Daneen Kovar Theye often calls the Carlisle, Iowa, native. So naturally the two-year member of the Bulldog cheer team has been selected as one of roughly 25 candidates who will vie for the official title of Miss Iowa.
One season after the Bulldogs ranked 21st nationally in scoring average, they are looking to up the ante in 2025. Concordia Cheer returns veteran leaders LaCole Anno and Lauryn Stanley to the competition mat.
