SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia University, Nebraska Competitive Dance team twice came within shouting distance of the school record on Saturday (Feb. 8) while performing in front of the home crowd inside Friedrich Arena. As part of the annual Concordia Cheer & Dance Duals, the Bulldogs emerged with wins over William Penn University (Iowa), 85.7 to 75.25, and over St. Ambrose University (JV – Iowa), 85.55 to 78.0. The grand event featured a total of 16 duals and 32 routines in one of the NAIA’s largest competitions of the season.

Head Coach Mandi Maser’s squad enjoyed an impressive weekend that also included a third-place finish at Friday’s York University Crown Classic. All three weekend scores were greater than 83.

“It was another successful day of duals,” Maser said. “Dance met their goal for today by scoring higher than the previous competition. They continue to impress us all and are so much fun to watch. Elise O’Neill and Kaylee Powell were amazing standout dancers today. Every competition is an opportunity for this team to gain confidence and put themselves on the national stage.”

The same eight Bulldogs who took to the dance floor at York also competed on Saturday. The 85.7 turned in by Concordia in round one just missed the school record for a single routine – 85.9 achieved in 2023 in a dual with Morningside. As compared to GPAC competition at the event, the Bulldogs scored higher than the likes of Doane, Dordt, Hastings, Morningside and Northwestern.

Defending national champion St. Ambrose sent its JV team to Seward. There were four other 2024 national qualifying programs present at the Concordia Duals: Grand View University (Iowa), Oklahoma City University, University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Viterbo University (Wis.). Viterbo wound up as the top overall team at the event. The V-Hawks earned a sterling 91.05 score in round two.
