Bulldogs set to host #22 Doane College on Senior Day
Concordia University concludes the 2011 season with a home game against rival Doane College on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Senior Day at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs hope to finish the season on a high note, but it has been a struggle as of late. Concordia, who sat at 4-2 on the year following a 47-12 thrashing of Briar Cliff on October 8, has since lost four in a row to enter Saturday’s contest at 4-6 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Bulldogs have scored 10 points or less in every game during the current losing streak. Concordia averages just 17.1 points per game on the year, which is eighth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Doane College, who was 22nd in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, brings a 7-2 overall record into Saturday’s matchup with the Bulldogs. The Tigers are 6-2 in the GPAC and are currently tied for second in the conference standings. Doane suffered a tough 19-17 loss at Hastings two weeks ago but bounced back with a convincing 63-26 win over Dordt College last Saturday in Crete. The Tigers average around 34 points per game on the year. Quarterback Anthony Dunn has been impressive this season, throwing for 2,497 yards and 22 touchdowns. Receiver Jeremiah Saffold has hauled in 49 passes this year for 876 yards and 10 scores as Dunn’s favorite target.
