SEWARD, Neb. – Just in time for preseason camp, alum Grady Koch has been promoted to a full-time role on Head Coach Patrick Daberkow’s Concordia University Football staff. Koch takes the title of Assistant Football Coach / Head Junior Varsity Football Coach. He will officially begin his new position on Aug. 9. The announcement was made official on Thursday (Aug. 5).
Daberkow’s full-time staff now includes Koch in addition to Defensive Coordinator Corby Osten and Offensive Coordinator Reggie Corbin. As announced on July 28, former Bulldog assistant coach Wes Coomes was named the Special Teams Coordinator at his alma mater, Ottawa University.
Koch previously served Concordia as a graduate assistant coach with a special focus on coaching the offensive line. The 2021-22 academic year will represent Koch’s third season on the coaching staff. The native of Doniphan, Neb., graduated from Concordia in 2019 with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education. He went on to earn his M.S. in Athletic Administration.
Said Koch, “I’m extremely excited and thankful that Coach Daberkow has provided this opportunity at a program that I am very passionate about. My experiences at Concordia from student-athlete to GA have played a huge role in my growth as a coach and a man. We are really excited about the direction that our program is trending and I look forward to helping the team become a consistent contender at the top of our conference.”
Said Daberkow, “Grady is a phenomenal offensive line coach and will get the most out of our big men. What is most encouraging for me as a head coach is that he is a great teacher. His passion for the game, and for Concordia University is extremely high, and we look forward to his contributions to our offense, our program and our school. I’m very excited that he’s going to be with us full time.”
Throughout his collegiate career, Koch started on the offensive line as a guard and tackle. He was named Honorable Mention All-GPAC and Honorable Mention Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska as both a junior and senior. During Koch’s junior season, he helped pave the way for running back Ryan Durdon to pile up 1,247 rushing yards. The Bulldogs finished the 2017 season at 6-4 overall.
The Concordia Football season will get started on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Morningside. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT from Sioux City, Iowa.
