2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Teams
SEWARD, Neb. – A first team All-GPAC performer on the field, running back Jonah Weyand has been selected to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Football Team. College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its football All-America selections on Thursday (July 15). The Concordia University Football program has landed at least one student-athlete on the all-district teams in each of the past nine years. Weyand is the first Bulldog football Academic All-American since Hallick Lehman in 2017.
The 2020-21 Academic All-America® Football Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. As a redshirt sophomore in 2020, the Crete High School product Weyand moved into a starting role in the backfield. In seven games played last fall, Weyand accumulated 625 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 146 attempts (4.3 yards/carry). Weyand made big waves early in the campaign when he rattled off 177 yards and five touchdowns in the overtime win over Hastings. He was subsequently named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week. Weyand also ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns in the victory over Doane. A strong student, Weyand is studying psychology and strategic communication at Concordia. He is also on track to be named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
