The field of teams at the Maverick Desert Classic is heavy on NCAA Division II competition. Concordia will go up against the likes of Bemidji State University (Minn.), Concordia University St. Paul, University of Mary (N.D.), Missouri Western State University and Rockhurst University (Mo.).
Head Coach Brett Muller’s men’s and women’s golf programs have used spring break to experience a warmer climate each season in recent years (in an alternating pattern between the men’s and women’s teams). The men traveled to Las Vegas in 2022 before the women made their way to Litchfield, Ariz., in 2023. The men have also ventured to places such as Fort Myers, Fla. (2016), Opelika, Ala. (2018) and Prescott, Ariz (2020).
During the fall portion of the season, the Concordia men competed in five varsity events and averaged a team score of 301.6. From a scoring average perspective, the top five Bulldogs this season have been Drew D’Ercole (74.0), Justin Webert (75.5), Jake Richmond (76.2), Josh D’Ercole (76.5) and Jacob Woodmancy (76.8) with Jake Hagerbaumer (76.9) close behind. The Papillion, Neb., native Drew D’Ercole claimed fourth-place individual finishes at the Blue River Classic and the Nebraska Intercollegiate. Meanwhile, Webert placed fifth at the Blue River Classic.
The men’s golf spring season will continue with the Graceland Invite on March 22-23. The 2024 GPAC Championships will be held in Beatrice, Neb., April 29-30. The full schedule can be found HERE.
