HASTINGS, Neb. – A surge from junior Jake Richmond on day two of the Nebraska Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-5) gave the Concordia University Men’s Golf team a shot at moving up in the team standings. However, the Bulldogs took too many big numbers down the stretch and settled for eighth place in the 10-team field at Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Neb. Both Jake Hagerbaumer and Richmond placed inside the top 20 in the field of 49 individuals.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad shot 33 over par (304-305–609) for the event. The tournament included 10 Nebraska institutions, including five from the NAIA level (four GPAC), four junior colleges and one NCAA Division III member.
“I thought we got off to a good start (on day two),” Muller said. “Jake Richmond played pretty solid all day until probably his last six holes. Earlier in the round, we had moved up and passed Doane. We struggled to finish and ended up right where we started the day at.”
A senior from Hooper, Neb., Hagerbaumer entered day two tied for the tournament lead after he shot a two-under-par 70 in round one. He closed his tournament by shooting a 78, putting him one stroke outside the top 10 (tied for 12th). Richmond emerged as Concordia’s best performer in round two as he shot one over par (73) after sitting below par most of the day. Richmond wound up in a tie for 17th place (76-73–149).
The Bulldog grouping was rounded out by senior Justin Webert (75-79–154; T-26th), junior Brock Rogers (85-75–160; T-38th) and senior Gavin Buttshaw (83-80–163; T-45th). Webert began the tournament as the team leader with a season scoring average of 76.0.
In the team standings, Concordia placed above North Platt Community College (642) and Central Community College (653). The Bulldogs were within range of Nebraska Wesleyan University (603) and Doane (607).
