OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The first official tournament of the 2023-24 season is in the books for Concordia University Men’s Golf. Led by Drew D’Ercole, the Bulldogs shot a three-round total of 303-294-303–900 at the UC Ferguson Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University on Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 28-29). Both days of action unfolded at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The average 18-hole score for Concordia at the event was right in line with last season’s school record season average of 300.3. Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad was represented by seven Bulldogs in Oklahoma City.
“Overall it wasn’t too bad,” Muller said. “We’re disappointed with where we finished on the team side. We played some pretty solid golf but just had too many bogies that really affected our team score.
“Last week we played five different golf courses and were able to get 54 holes of qualifying in. It was very tight. We took our top seven based on their qualifying scores. The guys who did not make the trip to Oklahoma City are playing at the Mount Marty Invite.”
The Papillion, Neb., native D’Ercole figures to anchor the lineup all season. He wound up with a three-round total of 68-75-75–218 at the UC Ferguson Classic. His three-under-par 68 on the first day of the tournament equaled a career low for 18 holes. The rest of the team’s top five featured Justin Webert (71-78-75–224), Jake Richmond (75-79-74–228), Jake Hagerbaumer (78-73-79–230) and Gavin Buttshaw (78-73-79–230).
