NORFOLK, Neb. – While the Concordia University Men’s Golf team fell off the pace it needed to play at to compete for a championship, both Jake Hagerbaumer and Drew D’Ercole placed inside the top five of the two-day Nebraska Intercollegiate (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). The Bulldog ‘A’ squad wound up in fifth place out of 11 groupings in the field of Nebraska institutions represented at Norfolk Country Club in Norfolk, Neb.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s top squad shot a two-round score of 305-316–621. That put Concordia behind Southeast Community College (597), Midland (604), Northeast Community College (615) and Doane (617).
“Our ‘B’ team beat our ‘A’ team today, which is good and bad,” Muller said. “It’s good that we have that depth. It was a little disappointing for our top group. We came into it hoping to win the tournament and were in second place after day one. We didn’t get it done, but I’m very proud of Jake Hagerbaumer. He had a great tournament and played well all weekend.”
Part of that ‘B’ team, Hagerbaumer shot 78-71–149 (five over par) for the tournament and finished just two strokes off of the tournament champion, Ethan Spier of Southeast CC. Hagerbaumer’s previous low round this season was a 72 at the Siouxland Invitational. Just behind Hagerbaumer among Bulldogs was Drew D’Ercole, who shot 74-76–150. He placed in a tie for fifth and earned a medal along with Hagerbaumer.
The rest of the Concordia top five included Justin Webert (77-77–154), Jake Richmond (78-80–158) and Gavin McWhorter (80-78–158). The Bulldog ‘B’ team shot a two-round total of 327-304–631 and placed seventh.
