LINCOLN, Neb. – As the day wore on in Lincoln, Neb., temperatures climbed into the 80s for round one of the Doane Spring Invite. The top grouping representing Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf carded a score of 309 in the team’s first outing of the spring season. From an individual perspective, junior Jake Richmond finds himself tied atop the leaderboard after he shot even par at Highlands Golf Course, home to the Bulldogs. Richmond is one of 11 Concordia golfers in the Doane Invite field.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s ‘A’ squad resides in sixth place out of 11 groupings halfway through the tournament. The ‘B’ grouping shot 335. In addition to Concordia and host Doane, the tournament field includes local institutions such as Hastings and Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Elkhorn, Neb., native Richmond was one of five golfers to shoot even par in Monday’s round. His 72 was three strokes off his career low for a single round. Three strokes behind, senior Justin Webert is currently tied for seventh (three-over-par 75). The two others that contributed to the ‘A’ team score were senior Gavin Buttshaw and junior Brock Rogers with an 81 apiece. Jake Hagerbaumer carded an 84. The team scoring average back in the fall was 306.
Meanwhile, the ‘B’ squad was paced by the likes of sophomores Jacob Dowd (82) and Maxwell Fremarek (83) and senior Jaxson Fullertson (84). In competing as an individual, freshman Landon Weinandt made his Concordia debut and shot an 82.
The top six teams in the standings are separated by only 10 strokes. Nebraska Wesleyan leads the field with its Monday team score of 299.
The second and final round of the Doane Invite is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday. The tournament will shift to Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln for round two. Live results can be found via Golf Genius (GGID of 25DOANESI).
