SEWARD, Neb. – The ninth annual Blue River Classic co-hosted by Concordia and Doane is on the docket for this week. Thirteen institutions will be represented at the two-day, 54-hole event set to take place on Wednesday and Thursday (Sept. 4-5) at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb., the home course of the Bulldogs. In addition to Concordia and Doane, the field will include GPAC competitors from Briar Cliff, Dordt, Midland, Morningside and Mount Marty. Those GPAC squads will be joined at Highlands by golfers from six junior colleges.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad opened the 2024-25 season last week at the Mount Marty Invite. Concordia’s ‘A’ team placed fifth overall while shooting 303-295–598 for the tournament held in Yankton, S.D. As a major highlight, Jake Hagerbaumer and Jake Richmond both shot below par (71) in round two of the Mount Marty Invite. Hagerbaumer moved up to a tie for 10th on the final individual leaderboard after carding a score of 75-71–146. Three of his teammates also placed within the top 30 in a field of 87 competitors: Richmond (77-71–148; T-18th), Justin Webert (74-75–149; T-23rd) and Jacob Dowd (75-75–150; T-27th).
At the 2023 Blue River Classic, the Bulldog ‘A’ group placed third (out of 16), shooting 296-297-291–884 for the tournament. The top two finishers were Morningside (874) and Doane (879). Current graduate assistant coach Drew D’Ercole shot even par and placed fourth individually (71-73-72–216). There was a tie at the top between Doane’s Sam Arnold and Hastings’ Gabe Escalera (both shot 212).
Following the Blue River Classic, Concordia will turn its attention to the Siouxland Invite on Sept. 9-10. There are five varsity tournaments scheduled for the fall portion of the 2024-25 season.
