SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – It was a memorable Monday (Sept. 13) for Omaha native Ivan Yabut, who broke the Concordia University Men’s Golf program record for lowest single round score. Yabut carded a seven-under-par 65 while navigating The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, Iowa, on the first of two days at the Siouxland Invite. Yabut owns a two-stroke lead atop the individual leaderboard, which includes 81 golfers. As a team, the Bulldog ‘A’ grouping sits tied for fifth out of 15 squads.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s top grouping shot a season low score of 291, besting the 293 it turned in on the final day of the Blue River Classic. Concordia is 11 strokes behind tournament leader Iowa Western Community College (280). The Bulldogs sit six strokes out of second place.
Prior to Yabut’s performance on Monday, the best 18-hole score ever by a Bulldog was four-under-par, achieved by four different individuals: Nolan Zikas, Shawn Rodehorst, Reid Wiebe and Mike Kulzer. Most recently, Zikas shot a 68 (-4) on Sept. 20, 2017, at the Blue River Classic. Yabut went lower while turning in an eagle, six birdies and 10 pars in Monday’s round. He had entered this week with a season scoring average of 73.8.
The rest of the Bulldog ‘A’ team included Jake Hagerbaumer (73; T-14th), Drew D’Ercole (74; T-19th), Justin Webert (79; T-49th) and Nate Auffet (86; T-69th). D’Ercole is coming off back-to-back top 10 tournament placements to begin the 2021-22 season.
