HASTINGS, Neb. – It was a fine first day of the Hastings Invitational as Ivan Yabut shot one under par and the Concordia University Men’s Golf team carded the third lowest score among 10 teams in the field. Three Bulldogs shot 76 or lower on Monday (April 11) while contributing to a team score of 301. Concordia will attempt to catch the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (291) and Hastings (293) in round two on Tuesday.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad returned to action for the first time since placing fifth at the Bethel Spring Invitational (April 2-3). The Bulldogs entered the week averaging a team score of 303.6.
Yabut will enter day two tied with two others atop an individual leaderboard of 63 golfers. Not far behind Yabut’s 71 were teammates Justin Webert (tied for fourth place) and Drew D’Ercole (tied for 15th place) who shot scores of 72 and 76, respectively. The performance on Monday marked the fourth time that Yabut has turned in a score of 71 or lower during the 2021-22 season. Fourteen competitors shot 75 or better in round one of the Hastings Invite, which is being held at Lochland Country Club.
The rest of the Concordia ‘A’ team featured Jake Hagerbaumer (82; T-34th) and Gavin Buttshaw (87; T-50th). Hagerbaumer was named the GPAC Golfer of the Week on April 6. Meanwhile, the Bulldog ‘B’ team shot a score of 324 and is in sixth place. The ‘B’ group is made up of Jacob Woodmancy (77; 19th), Taylor Johnson (79; T-22nd), Josh D’Ercole (83; T-36th), Jaxson Fullerton (84; T-40th) and Nate Auffet (88; 52nd).
